NTLL Divisions

North Torrance Little League teams are divided into five divisions, based primarily on player age.  In addition, NTLL typically fields a Junior division team(s) that play against other local Little Leagues.  The following divisions will be in play for the 2010 season.

  •  Major Division - ages 11 & 12
  •  Minor Division - ages 9 & 10
  •  Farm Division - ages 7 & 8
  •  Rookie Division - ages 6 & 7
  •  Tee Ball Division - ages 4, 5, & 6

  •  Junior Division - ages 13 & 14

Major Division

This division is primarily for 11 and 12 year old players with advanced baseball skills and 10 year olds that show advanced ability. 10 year olds may be allowed to play in the Major Division only with NTLL Board approval, as recommended by the Player Agent Committee. No player younger than league age 10 will be allowed to play in this division. This is a competitive division where standings and game scores are kept. Players from this division also can be selected to represent NTLL in the Little League World Series Tournament. Placement on teams in this division is by draft, through a player tryout prior to the season.

Minor Division

This a competitive baseball division primarily for 9 or 10 year old players, although a few might be either younger or older. Scores and standings are kept during the season in this division. Placement on teams in this division is by draft, through a player tryout prior to the season.

Farm Division

This division is for players 7 or 8 years of age that are ready for competitive baseball. Players hit live pitching delivered by a player/pitcher from the opposing team. Placement in this division is generally by "league age" 7 or 8 year old players, although 7 year olds that are not ready for competitive baseball may be assigned to the Rookie Division. Placement on teams in this division is by draft, through a player tryout prior to the season.

Rookie Division

This division is designed for 7 year olds that are not yet ready for player pitch/competitive baseball and 6 year olds that are ready to move beyond Tee Ball. Players hit live pitching (a cushioned, "safety ball") delivered by a pitching coach. The baseball played is considered instructional where neither scores nor team standings are kept. Placement on teams in this division is by draft, through a player tryout prior to the season.

Tee Ball Division

This division is for players from 4 to 6 years of age and is an instructional league where scores are not kept. Players hit a stationary ball (a cushioned, "safety ball") placed on a baseball hitting tee for the 1st half of the season. For the 2nd half of the season, soft-toss pitches are delivered by their coach. All players in attendance play on defense and bats once during each inning of offense. Focus is on the introduction to the basics of the game of baseball, advancing the players skills, and advancing the players knowledge of the rules of the game in preparation of the next level of play. Placement in this division is strictly by "league age" 4, 5, or 6 year old players.

Junior/Senior Division

The Junior Division is for players ages 13-14 and the Senior Division is for players 14-16 years of age.  In these divisions, NTLL plays against other local Little Leagues and uses a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches.
